Lead Chimney Flashings

Chimney Flashings – Tenterden

We carried out an overhaul on this chimney in Tenterden, Kent. The owners contacted me after experiencing problems with a leak. After surveying the chimney, I determined that it needed a complete overhaul. This included repointing, re-leading and re-flaunching the chimney. I always carry out a thorough survey to ensure it really needs replacement work or if the flashings are in good condition, I would only recommend patch repair. In this instance though it all needed replacing.

Due to the position of the chimney, I needed to carry out all the work required in one go as it was difficult gaining access. The prep work consisted of chasing out the brick work ready for re-pointing and removing the chimney pot which were going to be re flaunched. I then carried out fitted new Code 3 soakers ready for the lead flashing.

Once the new soakers were fitted, I made good of the roof slates. I then measured up for a welded Code 4 lead front apron, step and cover flashings and a welded lead back gutter. I then fitted the flashing with traditional lead wedges. The images below show the process of this lead chimney flashings project.
