Lead Flat Roof

Lead Flat Roof – Winchelsea

This lead flat roof in Winchelsea, East sussex, was set above a recently converted garage. The client decided to convert to allow for a new office and work area. I was asked to replace a felt roof with a lead flat roof.

Due to the length of the bays, the builder who worked on the extension was unable to create a step in the timber decking without coming over the top of the parapet wall. This meant that we had to fit code 8 lead, which met with regulations for the overall size of the lead flat roof.

We set out the wood core role and laid the lead underlay, which reduces drag when the lead expands and contracts in different temperatures. We then fitted code 5 welted panels, which have secrete copper clip fixings completing the ‘weathering in’ process. The images below detail the process, with the wide angled shots giving a perspective on the size of the lead flat roof.
